New Business
Eddie K4UN stated his desire to have more program activities for meetings.
Chris KL0UD informed the meeting of a communication from Sam KD4SHK that space was available on a new cell tower in Turin, but that the club would need to move fairly quickly to reserve the option by getting an antenna and feed line in place. Since the State Patrol tower at Hospital Road may become unavailable at some time in the future, there had been discussion at a previous meeting about where to move the 145.13 repeater if necessary, and the Turin tower could be a solution.
Discussion surrounding the Turin tower included questions about club access to the tower for installation and later repairs, and whether the building—which would have to be at club expense—would be inside or outside the fenced perimeter. Also, given the distance of the Turin location from the Hospital Road tower, re-coordination would be required.
Bill K4WPM moved, Eddie K4UN seconded, that the new president appoint a committee to look into the matter; motion approved. As president-elect, Eddie named himself, Darryl N4OME and Chris KL0UD to the committee, with one additional seat left open until the desired member, not present, could be asked to serve.
Chris KL0UD raised a question about meeting attendance and suggested the club consider making all its meetings “eating meetings.” She noted that all of the Fayette County radio club’s meetings are “eating meetings,” and are very well attended. Chris also suggested the club consider sponsoring a team for the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” in honor of club members who are cancer survivors, with the possibility of operating a special event station at the relay.
Eddie K4UN said he would like to make more effective use of the email reflector for club communications, which would help with distribution of a revived club newsletter.
Chris KL0UD asked about tightening the relationship between the club and Coweta ARES. She said she would like to offer ARES-related programs for club meetings.
Eddie K4UN adjourned the meeting without objection at 2046 EDT.
