Treasurer Report
AK4MC, acting in the absence of the treasurer, gave a report on the club’s finances which, including self-insurance and repeater fund, came to $3,784.71 as of Monday, Nov. 26. This includes $900 received from Coweta Festivals for Powers Crossroads.
W8PY reminded the meeting that the self-insurance fund is being increased regularly and that there is not yet a cap on how big it will get. W4KTR said the fund is meant to cover the replacement cost of the club’s equipment.
Old Business
K4UN formally announced that the December meeting would be in the form of a potluck dinner at Senoia United Methodist Church on Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. A map and directions were available at the meeting. AK4MC noted also that a map link has been added on the meetings page at the BGMRC website. K4UN also encouraged members to carpool, considering the distance involved.
K4WPM told about last month’s NIMS workshop in Fayetteville, conducted by David Benoist AG4ZR and Lynn Bianco KN4YZ. Discussion moved on to the general topic of the training and knowledge required of volunteers in emergency situations.
New Business
AK4MC announced that Coweta County plans a disaster drill in mid-December in conjunction with Piedmont Newnan Hospital. There will be a meeting Monday, Dec. 10 to plan for the drill. Chris KL0UD, ARES emergency coordinator for Coweta County, will attend the meeting and believes others are also welcome.
AK4MC also reminded the members that SKYWARN Recognition Day is this Saturday (Dec. 1) and that those wishing to operate at the WX4PTC ham station need to coordinate with Lynn Bianco KN4YZ. Email to Lynn (his callsign at ARRL.net) must include SKYWARN Recognition Day in the subject line to pass spam filters.
K4UN asked for program ideas for future meetings. W8PY moved, K4WPM seconded, that the program in January be to build one or more directional antennas for a subsequent weekend foxhunt activity. The motion was approved unanimously. W4KTR suggested another program could revolve around the proper installation of connectors such as PL-259.
W8PY said it was time to schedule the Technician course for the Boy Scouts wanting to become radio amateurs. He said the plan was to provide the students with study materials before the class, then cover the material on a Saturday and Sunday, with the test administered on Sunday. After much consultation of calendars, the weekend of February 9 and 10 was tentatively scheduled.
The 50/50 drawing returned, with nine tickets sold. WD4IIW was tonight’s winner.
