Jamboree on the Air
N4NRL discussed a proposal to have BGMRC provide support for a multi-county Scouting event in October, which would include earning merit badges as well as a prep class for the Tech license exam. The Scouts would come from Carroll and Haralson counties as well as Coweta and would work toward merit badges in emergency preparedness, radio, electronics and first aid.
N4JO suggested that including a license prep course might overtax time and manpower and suggested holding the class and license exam later, such as the following January, as was done for local Scouts last month.
Discussion and planning for this event will continue.
Grizzard Ride
K4WPM was contacted by the sponsors of the Lewis Grizzard Ride, scheduled for October 5 in Moreland, about the BGMRC's help with the event. Members raised concerns about the practice of having volunteers use their own vehicles, and whether insurance would cover them in case of an accident during the event. K4WPM will raise these concerns with event organizers.
Field Day
BGMRC will set up for Field Day at the Coweta County Fairgrounds, as usual. Plans for this year include a GOTA rig to encourage more young people to come out.
County Fair
It was suggested that this year the club see whether it can arrange to set up a side booth in the exhibit hall for more visibility, if it doesn't cost too much.
Fayette-Coweta ARES April Meeting
KL0UD announced the time, date and location of the upcoming Fayette-Coweta ARES meeting: 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Peachtree City Fire Station #81 at Highway 74 South and Paschall Road. K4WPM said he had spoken to AG4ZR David Benoist, Fayette-Coweta EC, about the agenda for the meeting, and encouraged a big Coweta turnout.
Future of the BGMRC Sunday Net
KL0UD pointed out that net participation has been down recently and raised the question of the net's future now that it's no longer an ARES net; after having been in charge of it for some years she would like for someone else to take it over. K4UN suggested it is probably time to consider a new format for the net, possibly a "tech net." He also suggested a more casual approach given that it's no longer an emergency preparedness net.
